I’m Andrew Downing, a photographer raised in Columbus, Ohio, now based in Brooklyn, New York.

My work is centered around people—how they move through spaces, how they exist within moments, and the subtle ways they leave traces behind. I’m drawn to visuals that feel natural and unforced, along with the quiet interactions and details that often go unnoticed. Much of my work lives between portraiture and candid, documentary-style observation.

Whether I’m documenting a space, a service, or the people within it, I try to stay close to what feels real.

I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by different perspectives—across race, culture, identity, and experience. Over time, that shaped the way I see. It taught me to pay attention, to notice nuance, and to approach people and places with openness.

Alongside photography, I’ve spent much of my time working in and around the internet, thinking about how people connect and express themselves. That perspective continues to shape how I approach images—especially in fast-moving, culturally driven spaces.

I work across personal, editorial, and commissioned projects, with a focus on lifestyle, hospitality, and story-driven assignments. My approach is simple: create an environment that feels comfortable, stay attentive, and let moments unfold naturally.
